Let's Not Make Revolving Doors Too Complicated

When approaching a revolving door, focus more on looking effortless like Heidi Klum and less on who enters the door first. Photo credit: XPosurePhotos

"Whereas a man commonly opens a door for a woman to enter first, the situation is reversed with a revolving door. In this case, the man goes first and pushes the door for the woman, or else he pushes it forward from the side and allows her to enter first." - Kate Spade’s Manners

Holding the door open for a lady, or anyone in general, is a classic convention that we should still practice today. However, revolving doors are stressful enough without having to worry about who should enter first. I think we should be way more concerned about the etiquette of revolving door speed- don't go too slow because the person behind you may be a claustrophobic, but don't go so fast that the person behind you feels like they're on an out-of-control treadmill.

If you're feeling too uncertain and nervous about the etiquette of revolving doors, try using the regular doors that are on either side.

Manners Moral: Be polite and respectful in all situations, but don't let etiquette be easy and natural. Trying to mind your manners shouldn't result in an awkward situation.
