Some girls love shoes and some love jewelry, but I am most definitely a purse girl. I'll wear the same jewelry every day and reuse staple wardrobe items to create different outfits, but I'm always on the hunt for a new bag. However, I'm not looking for your run-of-the-mill purses that go with everything. Nor do I always choose the most classic option. Actually, I never choose the most classic option.
I'm a bit out of the box and want my purse choices to reflect that, even if the rest of my outfit is understated in comparison. And, I don't just save my 'fun' bags for my personal life. They're in constant rotation with the rest of my work wardrobe. You'll read a lot of things that tell you an extremely fashionable or unique purse has no place in the office, but I respectfully disagree. Why can't you have fun and show your personality through accessories at work? Although, I will say, there is a fine line.
My go-to designers right now are Ted Baker and Kate Spade because their selection of classic and unique bags are just unmatched. I usually wait for stores to have big sales (Kate Spade has a 75% off sale every few months) because a purse habit doesn't need to break the bank. See some of my more out-there bags below. I'm proud to say I've carried them all to work, brunch and the mall, but they definitely aren't my most out-of-the-box bags (more on those later).
Pretty in Pink
I'm not going to lie, most of the reason I love Ted Baker bags is because they say my name on them. Pretty much, I'm making up for never being able to find a customized trinket with my name on it when I was growing up. I love this particular bag because it's the color of the season, has the adorable bow and cube detail and is a jelly material. It goes with almost everything and still stands out. It's also the perfect size. I can fit everything I need, but don't lose my lipgloss or keys in a dark abyz
Pops of Style
These two are definitely some of my more 'unique' pieces, and naturally, they are both Kate Spade. Aus bought me this popcorn tote bag for Christmas several years ago because that is my favorite snack. It works wonderfully as a tote bag for my work computer and planner. I agree, I shouldn't match it with a suit, but in my casual office, it's a huge hit.
Travel Often
I had to give you a close-up of this Kate Spade suitcase purse. I first saw it in an email advertising an outlet sale and knew I had to have it. You may be asking yourself where I actually carry this purse, and the answer is everywhere. Along with the obviously different design, the different style and shape make it the perfect way to break up my wardrobe. Also, it says my name in that blue detail on the front. Are you noticing a theme here?
Classic Blues
This Carolina blue purse is definitely one of my more tame options, but I include it because it's still a far cry from your traditional black or brown bags. It throws back to my UNC-Chapel Hill roots and is a great accent piece for neutral outfits. It also shows people that I carry purses other than giant totes, which is always a good thing. I feel like a stylish, professional woman every time I carry this bag.
Concrete Jungle
I can't resist leopard print on anything (pillows, clothing, purses, shoes, knick knacks, etc.) and this purse was no exception. I get more compliments about this bag than almost any other bag I have. It's gigantic, which is perfect for all of the miscellaneous items that I carry around with me on a daily basis and looks so sleek with jeans, heels and a black top. I also love that it's a different take on the classic leopard print colors.
Manners Moral: So, what do purses have to do with manners and etiquette? That's easy. A purse pulls together an outfit and a well-mannered woman always looks finished and put together. However, in your effort to be a classy woman, don't forfeit your personality. Let your inner self shine through your accessories.
